Finally back from approx. 4 weeks on the road...6 days in Napa for tasting the 2004s and the US Seal Foundation charity event 2/15(which raised over $300,000 for these exceptional patriots), and three weeks in Beijing,Shanghai, Hong Kong,Kuala Lumpur(we were on a Air Malaysia flight from HG to KL the day the other flight disappeared),and finally a week in Singapore. Posted lots of foodie pictures on my personal twitter site. After 22 hours on planes coming home, I have caught up on new movie releases. But more importantly, some news.
The Grand World Tour is heading to London! We shall have full details on the Gala Hedonist's Dinner and a Taste of Greatness Master Class for subscribers in the next few days.Tickets are not yet on sale, but we will give all of you plenty of advance notice. All the Asian events were sold-out(some over-subscribed),but keep your calendars open between June 5 and June 7. After London, we will hit Paris and a few other cities, probably Berlin and Moscow.
I am also very excited to announce a new lifestyle magazine called "100 Points by Robert Parker." Separate and apart from TWA,it will accept non-wine related advertising. We are thrilled to be partnering/teaming with BURDA,a leading media house with global reach, and a keen understanding of our need to maintain the independence that is paramount and at the core of TWA name and credibility. That is an essential prerequisite to the continuation of our independence and reliable ability to offer intelligent and well-reasoned judgements free of external influence.
100 Points will launch in early summer. It promises to be an exciting 2014-let's hope the European and New World vineyards pull off a fabulous harvest as well!
2013 is a bit like 2004 and 2011 in style
The Château Haut-Brion Pessac-Léognan 2013 has weight and density, with dark plum, raspberry coulis and red currant fruit showing well already, all lined with obvious but racy and integrated tannins. The finish is long and tinged with violet, tobacco and star anise notes, with lovely energy. While the grand vin at Margaux seems to have coaxed the most elegance it could out of the vintage, this seems to have coaxed the most depth and power. Barring a surprise further up in the Médoc, where Cabernet Sauvignon struggled more so in '13, this is an early candidate for red wine of the vintage on the Left Bank
