Neal Martin mit Pichon Vertikalen;
1970 Château Pichon-Lalande 92
1975 Château Pichon-Lalande 90
1982 Château Pichon-Lalande 97
Tasted at the château as part of a private vertical. The 1982 Pichon-Lalande has always been a fascinating and quite brilliant wine. This is the first time I have tasted it at the property and the nose is much tighter than I expected, unfolding with wonderful scents of blackberry, cedar, graphite, mint and juniper. There is still a tremendous amount of vigour. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, well judged acidity, layers of black fruit interlaced with cedar, spice, a touch of cumin and sage. There is very good length and persistency towards the ferrous finish, although it is not as precocious as it was during the late 1990s. However, it remains their finest achievement of that decade. Tasted March 2014.
1983 Château Pichon-Lalande 89
1985 Château Pichon-Lalande 88
1986 Château Pichon-Lalande 95
1988 Château Pichon-Lalande 87
1989 Château Pichon-Lalande 92
1995 Château Pichon-Lalande 94
1996 Château Pichon-Lalande 96
2003 Château Pichon-Lalande ? Other bottles have tasted fine, but this is a perplexing showing.
2005 Château Pichon-Lalande 94
2010 Château Pichon-Lalande 97
Here is a Pauillac brimming with tension and focus, the wine achieving tremendous precision on its long and persistent finish. Outstanding.

Neal Martin neuerdings für Oregon zuständig;
We're pleased to announce that Neal Martin will be taking over as our new Oregon reviewer for The Wine Advocate. It is anticipated that his first Oregon report will feature in the February 2015 Issue (Issue 217) of The Wine Advocate / eRobertParker.com. Neal commented on his new appointment:

"I am looking forward to covering the wines of Oregon for The Wine Advocate. I have admired Oregon's wines for many years, but still I thought long and hard before accepting since I wanted time to consider what I could contribute to the coverage of this important wine region. Having reviewed and written about Pinot Noir in depth not only in Burgundy, but also New Zealand, South Africa and Chile over the years, Oregon is a natural fit into my current portfolio. Once I have finished my assignments in Burgundy, I will set to work on visiting Oregon, not only to review the wines but to write about the region, the terroir and of course, the winemakers."

We are looking forward to Neal bringing an enormous amount of experience, insight and global context to our future Wine Advocate Oregon reviews. I hope everyone will join me in congratulating him on his new appointment!
