This afternoon we have FIVE outstanding vintages of Ducru-Beaucaillou (Vintage Recorked by the Chateau). An innovative machine developed by the Eternam Company has been in use amongst the Chateaux in Bordeaux to preserve the organoleptic properties of older, iconic vintages, thus maximizing their aging capabilities. This new machine helps prevent oxidization of the bottles (something that the traditional method of recorking subjected the wines to). The highly sophisticated machine was developed specifically for reconditioning the wines in Ducru-Beaucaillou's cellars. The sale totalled £1,674,810 ($2.7 million) and was 92% sold. Prices soared for mature Bordeaux and Burgundy as a result of strong competition from across the globe. Two magnums of Pétrus 1945 achieved the highest price of £47,000 closely followed by a five-magnum lot of La Tâche 1971 DRC which brought £44,650.
