Greetings all,
Well, after two and a half weeks of intensive tasting, I am tasked with turning around the Bordeaux primeur report in four days. Nothing like working under pressure but I'm actually ahead of schedule thanks to fast fingers. Last I looked there was north of 700 notes, which is probably the most comprehensive ever written for TWA, with most samples tasted twice and a few of them four or even five times. I'm putting as much background information into the notes as possible: picking dates, blends, élevage, background issues affecting the wine and so forth. To me these are just as important as "it tastes of strawberries" etc. It's not a straightforward vintage, one certainly full of ups and downs despite the Bordeaux hype that is beginning to bubble up. As always, the relevance to the consumer will be subject to how prices match their willingness to pay. As usual, I'll be giving you a lot to chew over.

Right back to blending the report...

The blend should be 40% tasting notes, 30% background information/interviews, 10% growing season info (taken directly from weather stations instead of just UGC report), 5% the state of the market, 5% banging on about prices, 5% incredible black & white photos, 3% video and 2% slightly tangential introduction/conclusion. The only consultant used was a dictionary. It will be chaptalized with a bit of humour, possibly acidified with a bit of controversy and will then undergo a very rapid maturation in barrel until this Friday afternoon. It will then be sent to Singapore for bottling with instructions: no fining or filtering.
